Industrial design is the process of designing products in a functional and creative way by considering user needs, aesthetic values, and production possibilities. It encompasses a wide range of products, from everyday objects to industrial goods.
Our department aims to train professional industrial designers who can create user-centered products with creative problem-solving approaches, balancing aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability.
They can work in a wide range of fields such as product design and development, R\&D centers, design consultancy firms, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, as well as in various industries including automotive, furniture, packaging, home appliances, medical devices, and lighting design.
The duration of the Industrial Design undergraduate program is 4 years (8 semesters). The curriculum includes design studios, technical drawing, materials science, production technologies, computer-aided design (CAD), user research, and project-based courses.
The language of instruction in the Industrial Design Department is Turkish.
Yes. The design studio courses are primarily practice-based, providing students with skills in idea generation, model/prototype development, and presentation.
Software programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhinoceros, Fusion 360, Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop are taught during the education process.
Studio projects are generally evaluated through jury presentations at the end of the semester. Criteria such as process-oriented development, research, modeling, originality, and presentation quality are taken into consideration.
A double major or a minor can be pursued with eligible programs within the opportunities provided by our university.
Yes. Our students take part in projects conducted in collaboration with the industry and develop solutions based on real client needs.
As part of the department curriculum, students are required to participate in internship activities within the scope of the Workplace Training and Workplace Practice courses.
All tasks performed during the internship must be reported with detailed and technical explanations for each day. The submission date of the internship report is determined in accordance with the dates announced in the academic calendar. In addition, the required internship documents and the report writing template can be accessed through the department’s website.
To graduate, students are required to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits.
Course registrations are carried out at the beginning of each semester through the Student Information System within the dates specified in the academic calendar. Registrations are finalized with the approval of the academic advisor.
The course add/drop week is specified in the academic calendar. During this period, you can make changes to your selected courses, add new ones, or drop existing ones.
In order for your course registration to be officially completed, your advisor must approve the registration electronically. You can contact your advisor through the Student Information System and schedule a meeting.
You can access the email addresses of the academic staff through the faculty’s website and meet them in person during their designated office hours.
Academic Procedures – Exams & Attendance
Students who are unable to attend a scheduled exam due to a valid and documented excuse (such as a medical report or official duty) may apply for a make-up exam. Students who receive a failing grade (FF or FD) in the final exam or who do not attend the final exam are eligible to take the make-up exam. Make-up exams are given to provide a second chance to improve course grades and do not include midterm exams.Bütünleme Sınavı Usul ve Esasları
Students who have successfully completed all graduation requirements except for one failed course may apply for the single-course exam. The application is made through a petition to the faculty and is subject to the approval of the academic board.
Yes. Students who do not meet the minimum attendance requirement for a course (typically 70%) lose the right to take the final exam and are graded as NA (not attended), which is equivalent to a failing grade.
A student may submit a written petition to the department head within five (5) working days of the announcement of the grade. A student may request to withdraw from a course within the period specified in the academic calendar. Students who have completed equivalent courses at another institution may apply for course exemptions. The application must be made at the beginning of the academic term with supporting documents such as transcripts and course syllabi. The exemption and adjustment (intibak) decisions are made by the faculty board.
Eligible students with a sufficient GPA may apply for Double Major or Minor programs in accordance with the university's regulations. Applications are evaluated based on academic achievement and capacity within the target department, and accepted students are required to fulfill the curriculum of the secondary program in addition to their primary degree.Yan Dal Esas ve Usulleri
Erasmus+ Program
Erasmus+ is an exchange program supported by the European Union that allows students to study or do an internship in another European country for one or two semesters. OSTİM Technical University aims to provide its students with both academic and professional experience in this context.
All students at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels can apply. However, only first-year students can apply; mobility can only take place starting from the 2nd year. In addition, the general grade point average (GPA) must be at least 2.20 for undergraduate students and 2.50 for graduate students.
The Erasmus application process usually opens in February-March, unless otherwise stated, in the spring semester of each year. Applications and announcements are published on the official website of OSTİM Technical University and in the announcements of the Erasmus Coordinatorship.
Erasmus study mobility can last at least 3 months (one semester) and at most 12 months. Similarly, internship mobility can be between 2 and 12 months. There is a total of 12 months of mobility for each level of education (undergraduate, graduate, doctorate).
An Erasmus foreign language exam is taken during the application. Unless otherwise stated, English language proficiency is measured. Valid national or international exam results can also be accepted.
Only institutions that OSTİM Technical University has an agreement with can be visited. There must be an agreement between the university you want to go to and your department.
A copy of your ID, transcript, application form and language exam result documents are required during the application. Application details are updated every year with the announcement.
Yes. It is possible to participate without a grant (zero grant). In this case, all expenses are covered by the student, but academic recognition and other rights are preserved.
